Russia, Iran Discuss Regional Crisis Amid US-Israeli Attacks
During the phone call, Lavrov informed Araghchi about the arrival of a new shipment of humanitarian aid to Tehran. This follows ongoing US and Israeli strikes on Iran since Feb. 28, which have reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including senior leadership figures such as Ali Khamenei.
Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as neighboring countries, including Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military installations. These exchanges have resulted in casualties, damage to infrastructure, and wider disruptions affecting global markets and aviation.
Lavrov and Araghchi also discussed the potential for shifting the conflict toward a political and diplomatic resolution, emphasizing adherence to international law and consideration of the legitimate interests of all regional actors.
Earlier, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry reported the delivery of 313 tons of medical supplies to Iran under directives from President Vladimir Putin. The ministry described this as the second major consignment of medical aid and noted that the operation was carried out successfully with assistance from Azerbaijan.
